That "$99 whole-house special" is a bait ad - the real number appears once they are in your hallway, or the "clean" is a shop-vac at the register. We photograph the inside of your ducts before and after instead.

Aprilaire Duct Sealing & Repair: The Irving Owner’s Guide

Aprilaire duct sealing and repair in Irving typically runs $340-$780 for a complete system seal depending on duct run count and accessibility, and we stock Aprilaire-compatible mastic, collars, and flex repair components on every truck. Most Irving jobs we book are completed same-day once the written price is agreed to. Homeowners usually figure out something’s wrong when rooms stop heating evenly, utility bills spike without explanation, or they feel conditioned air blowing from a ceiling register that should be closed.

Tomas Reyes, our owner, has walked enough attics in Las Colinas and Valley Ranch to know that Aprilaire systems here often show their first seal failures around year 8-10, faster than manufacturer estimates suggest, partly because North Texas temperature swings harden mastic compounds more aggressively than milder climates.

Which Aprilaire Models This Applies To

Aprilaire does not manufacture ductwork itself, but its whole-home air cleaners, humidifiers, and ventilation controllers integrate into standard residential duct systems using specific collar sizes, transition fittings, and sealed bypass loops. The parts we replace most often are the 6-inch and 8-inch round duct collars that mate Aprilaire Model 5000 electronic air cleaners and Model 800 steam humidifiers to the plenum, plus the flexible duct sections used in Aprilaire fresh-air ventilator installations like the Model 8126X.

To identify what you need, check the metal label on the Aprilaire unit itself for the four-digit model number, then measure the collar diameter where it enters the plenum or trunk line. The 5000 series uses a 6-inch collar; the 800 series humidifiers typically need an 8-inch. Aftermarket collars from DiversiTech or Ideal-Air fit and cost less, but for bypass applications where pressure cycling is constant, we prefer OEM Aprilaire collars with their thicker gasket material. The gotcha: some 8126X ventilator installs from 2015-2019 used proprietary Aprilaire flex duct with a slightly smaller inner diameter than standard 6-inch flex. Standard repair sleeves slip on loose unless you know to spec the reduced-cuff adapter.

Signs Your Aprilaire Duct Sealing & Repair Is Failing

Signs Your Aprilaire Duct Sealing & Repair Is Failing
  • Uneven temperatures room to room. When mastic around an Aprilaire collar cracks, conditioned air leaks into the attic or wall cavity before reaching the register. The room farthest from the air handler gets starved first, and homeowners in Irving’s older Las Colinas townhomes often notice this in upstairs bedrooms during August.
  • Dust accumulation near the Aprilaire unit. A failed seal on the return side pulls unfiltered attic air through gaps. We regularly find black streaking on the cabinet or surrounding joists where dirty air has been drawn across the filter housing for months.
  • Humidity spikes despite the humidifier running. The Aprilaire Model 800 pushes steam through a sealed duct loop. When that loop leaks, steam condenses in wall cavities instead of reaching the supply plenum. The humidistat reads low, the unit runs longer, and water damage starts where you cannot see it.
  • Whistling or rushing air at the plenum. This usually means a separated flex section or a collar that has pulled loose from its start collar. The noise is air moving through a gap that should not exist, and it worsens as the system cycles on and off.
  • Utility bills climbing 15-30% with no equipment change. Leaky ductwork forces the HVAC system to run longer to hit thermostat setpoints. In Irving’s climate, where systems run hard from March through October, that inefficiency shows up fast on an Oncor bill.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Scope Price Range What’s Included
Single collar reseal or replacement $340-$480 OEM or spec-grade aftermarket collar, mastic application, pressure test, photo record
Multi-point seal (2-4 collars or flex sections) $520-$680 All failing seals addressed, plenum inspection, full-system pressure verification
Full system reseal with Aprilaire integration $680-$780 Complete seal of all accessible ductwork, Aprilaire collar verification, documented before/after photo record, 365-Day Done Right Promise

What drives the range: attic accessibility (blown insulation adds time), duct material (sheet metal vs. flex vs. duct board), and whether the Aprilaire unit itself needs repositioning to correct a prior install error. Every price is written and agreed before work starts, Haven Standard Clause 1. No per-vent pricing, no add-ons once the truck is loaded.

The 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the seal integrity and collar fit. If air leaks recur at a point we sealed, we return and make it right. The photo record shows exactly where we applied mastic and what the collar interface looked like when we left.

What you can safely check: verify that your Aprilaire unit is powered and that the filter is seated correctly. Look for obvious disconnected flex duct in an accessible attic. Beyond that, duct sealing involves working in unconditioned spaces, often near electrical components and at height. Mastic application looks simple but requires clean, dry surfaces and proper cure time; most DIY seals fail within a season because dust or moisture was trapped underneath.

The photo doesn’t lie - let’s look at it together before we talk about next steps. Our inspection camera shows you the gap, the crack, or the separated collar without guesswork. Call (682) 297-4068 and we’ll put a written number next to it.
